چکیده

The efficacy of the water-assisted ultraviolet-C light (WUVC) strategy was evaluated as an alternative to chlorine sanitization and compared ‘conventional’ dry technology (DUVC) for inactivation Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes murine norovirus (MNV-1) on strawberries. Strawberries were washed in a laboratory scale prototype (LAB-UVC-Gama) consisting tank filled with water, equipped 4 UV-C lamps emitting dose 0.6, 1.3, 3.2 6.3 kJ m−2. For DUVC, same doses used. Moreover, trials off or solution (200 ppm, pH 6.5), carried out control treatment. Reductions artificially inoculated L. S. infectivity MNV-1 after WUVC treatments comparable those obtained chlorine-wash, which equivalent all irradiation tested microorganisms studied (P < 0.05). implementation improved DUVC system 2-min exposure (1.3 m−2), by 1.2 1.6 log enterica monocytogenes, respectively. At m-2 (5 min), enhanced washing treatment 1.5 log. After 10 min, pathogenic bacteria reduced > sanitization. reductions, we reported 1.4 TCID50 95 % certainty different times decontamination procedures. MNV-1, increase (kJ m−2) applied did not affect their reduction effective at significantly reducing wash avoiding cross-contamination thus, allowing water recirculation. results present study provide new tools ensure safety strawberries intended be processed, contributing affording more innovative sustainable future food industry. However, industry operation studies are needed conclude that good chlorine.

Survival of Listeria monocytogenes on fresh and frozen strawberries.

Cut or intact surfaces of fresh strawberries were spot inoculated with a five-strain cocktail of nalidixic-acid resistant Listeria monocytogenes (10(6) (low inoculum) and 10(8) (high inoculum) CFU per three-berry sample). Inoculated strawberries were dried for 1 h at 24 degrees C and were stored in loosely closed containers at 4 or 24 degrees C. An initial population reduction of approximately ...

Ultraviolet-C light inactivation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes on organic fruit surfaces.

This study investigated UV-C light inactivation of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes on the surface of organic apples, pears, strawberries, red raspberries and cantaloupes. Fruit surfaces spot inoculated with cocktail strains of E. coli O157:H7 and L. monocytogenes were exposed to UV-C doses up to 11.9 kJ/m(2) at 23 °C. Fruit surface roughness, contact angle, and surface energ...

Inactivation of Salmonella enterica by UV-C light alone and in combination with mild temperatures.

The aim of this investigation was to study the efficacy of the combined processes of UV light and mild temperatures for the inactivation of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica and to explore the mechanism of inactivation. The doses to inactivate the 99.99% (4D) of the initial population ranged from 18.03 (Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium STCC 878) to 12.75 J ml(-1) (Salmonella enterica s...

Atmospheric cold plasma inactivation of Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium and Listeria monocytogenes inoculated on fresh produce.

Atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) represents a potential alternative to traditional methods for non-thermal decontamination of foods. In this study, the antimicrobial efficacy of a novel dielectric barrier discharge ACP device against Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica Typhimurium and Listeria monocytogenes inoculated on cherry tomatoes and strawberries, was examined. Bacteria were spot inoculat...
